He once described his reporting/writing process. He reports the hell out of a subject until he finds that he's hearing the same things 3 times from different people. Then he goes to his house and lays on a picnic bench staring into space for a few weeks. Then he starts putting together the armistice whereby he'll put together the story out of all the info and notes he's accumulated.<br /><br />It was the staring into space on the picnic bench part that always endeared him to me, and that I was reminded of from your narrative.
